At its annual general meeting on Nov. 22, the South Shore Regional School Board (SSRSB) elected a new chair and vice-chair.
Theresa Griffin, former vice-chair, was elected as the board’s new chair and Elliott Payzant, former chair, was elected as the board’s new vice-chair. Both will serve a one-year term effective immediately.
“I’ve devoted my life to education and it’s an honour to be elected as chair for the SSRSB,” said Theresa Griffin. “Our previous chair has brought us to a good spot and I plan to continue that. I also want to see enhanced communication with our parents and the community, and greater alignment and partnerships with government and non-government organizations. There is nothing more important than fighting for a strong public school system in Nova Scotia.”
Former chair and current vice-chair Elliott Payzant congratulated Theresa and says he’s pleased to continue working with her in a new capacity. “I have enjoyed my year as chair,” said Elliott. “We’ve accomplished a lot and I’m looking forward to seeing how much we can accomplish this year.”
SSRSB Superintendent of Schools Scott Milner says he is “looking forward to continue working with Theresa and Elliott, and the entire board. We have a student-focused board with valuable experience and knowledge. Their collective passion and vision for education in the South Shore region is outstanding.”
