South Shore Regional Centre for Education and the Nova Scotia International Student Program
The South Shore Regional Centre for Education proudly participates as a consortium partner in the Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP). Founded in 1997, the NSISP is a collaborative initiative between the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Regional Centres for Education and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial across the province.
Welcoming Students from Around the World
NSISP invites students from grades 7 to 12 to study in our region, with options ranging from one month to more than a year. Our diverse student body comprises individuals from three major regions: South America, Europe, and Asia, with approximately one-third of our students hailing from each area.
The Homestay Experience
During their stay in Canada, NSISP students live with local families through our Homestay program. These host families are central to the NSISP experience, offering students a chance to fully immerse themselves in English and Canadian culture. In return, host families gain insights into the cultures, customs, and traditions of their student’s home countries. Host families receive compensation for providing accommodations and meals, while students cover their additional expenses.
Ongoing Support and Engagement
To ensure a smooth cultural transition for our students, the NSISP employs dedicated Homestay Coordinators. These coordinators work closely with host families to address any challenges, provide ongoing support, and create opportunities for cultural exchange.
Become a Host Family
We are constantly seeking caring and supportive families interested in hosting international students. By opening your home, you have the chance to experience the world’s diversity firsthand.
