Hurricane Preparations & Extra-Curriculars Cancelled This Weekend

Our region is expected to receive significant rainfall and hurricane-force winds over the weekend which could impact school opening on Monday, if there are power outages and/or property damage to schools. As a reminder, there is no school scheduled for Friday, Sept. 23 due to a PD day.

Due to the forecasted storm, SSRCE will be closing all schools to the public and cancelling all extra-curricular/community activities this weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education is following the path of the storm closely and we have plans in place to inspect all of our buildings following the storm and make decisions about Monday opening if necessary.

Plan of Action
In advance of the storm, our Operations staff is working with school staff to ensure all of our buildings are secure.

Once the storm passes and it is safe, staff will check schools to determine if there are any impacts on our ability to open on Monday. This will include speaking with Nova Scotia Power, provincial and municipal emergency officials.

If there are going to be any cancellations or delays, we will share this information in a number of different ways. We recognize any decisions to close a school or schools has an impact on families so we share any information as soon as a decision has been made.

How will we let you know?
Technology doesn’t always work, especially if there are power outages. Please remember to check multiple sources for updates. If there are any impacts (delays or cancellations) to a school or schools, you can expect to find the information in the following ways:

•    Check our website at www.ssrce.ca
•    Facebook and Twitter
•    Listen to your radio (local radio stations are informed)
•    We will send an e-mail to all parents/guardians with email addresses in PowerSchool.
