South Shore Regional School Board Approves 2014-2015 Budget

Bridgewater, NS – The South Shore Regional School Board approved its 2014-2015 $78,596,507 balanced budget on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at a Special Board Meeting in Bridgewater.

“Staff worked very hard to protect classrooms and regional services to students, as much as possible,” said Jennifer Naugler, Board Chair.

“Months of review and scrutiny lead to reductions in areas such as system supports and supplies.  These were just some of the areas reduced to present a balanced budget for 2014-2015,” said Wade Tattrie, Director of Finance.

“Regional staff was reviewed in terms of Board goals and efficiency.  Several positions were adjusted to meet specific needs and priorities of the Board or as a result of new targeted funding supplied by the province,” said Geoff Cainen, Superintendent of Schools.

Over the past several years, there have been significant reductions to services, including regional office and school-based staff.  The South Shore Regional School Board continues to work diligently to protect classroom services to students as it adjusts to the enrolment decline.
