The students and staff of the Mahone Bay Alternate school participated in a field trip to Kejimkujik National Park on Thursday, September 18, 2014. This trip was planned with the expectation that students would establish an understanding of the early territories of the Mi’kmaq peoples of North America, as well as their traditions and values. The students participated in a tour led by Mi’kmaq Elder Todd Labrador. During the tour the students learned about the early history of the Mi’kmaq people. They also handled replicas of the artifacts that were discovered along the Mersey River, as well as explored the rocks where the petroglyphs were carved. A wonderful cultural experience for everyone!
