High school graduation is a significant milestone for students, as well as their families and friends who have supported them along the way. Students and families have been looking forward to celebrating graduation, and this year’s events will be different than anticipated. High school staff are working with students and parent/guardian groups to organize meaningful, safe ways to honour our grads and their accomplishments.
Schools are organizing recognition events that are accessible for students. For this reason, grad celebrations will not be exclusively online. However, there may be some virtual components, such as a video message or photo slideshow. Our goal is to celebrate grad in ways that are creative and honour the individual and their accomplishments.
This year, high schools will hold grad events from June 22-30. These events will include presentations of diplomas to individual students as well as photo opportunities. All in-person events must respect physical distancing and other public health measures. Many grad recognition events will be held outside. Grads are allowed to bring 4 guests to the event. Schools will provide specific details on what the event will look like, as well as time, date and location.
Schools have collaborated with school community members to honour graduates and provide souvenirs; one example you might see is a sign on the lawn of a graduating student. While each school is planning its own unique way to recognize grads, graduates will be honoured and they will receive their diploma!
Thanks everyone ~ Stay safe and be well
