Holiday Break Update

Dear parents/guardians,

The Province has just announced changes to the holiday break schedule.

The last day of class for most students will now be Friday, Dec. 17, 2021. Learning centres will remain open on December 20 and 21 for students whose needs are met through learning centres and require additional support.  All staff will report to work as usual on Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 20 and 21), unless they are required to isolate for public health reasons.

As stated in the news release, the decision to begin the break early is an operational decision based on staffing pressures and not a public health decision. The recent COVID-19 outbreak has put pressures on schools across the province, impacting staff, students, and our communities.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will continue to monitor the pandemic over the holidays and consult with public health before schools reopen.

Most students are scheduled to return to class on Jan. 6, 2022, with learning centres remaining open Jan. 4 and Jan. 5. Parents/guardians with students whose needs are met through learning centres will be contacted by schools directly with more information.

Lastly, I would like to wish you much health and happiness throughout the holidays. I hope you are all able to enjoy time with your loved ones with time to rest and recharge. Your ongoing support as we continue to shift and adapt, continues to impress me and I thank you for your commitment to ensuring our students can continue to learn through the pandemic.

We look forward to welcoming back students in the New Year.

Happy Holidays,

Paul Ash
